Frosty's Winter Wonderland Deluxe Edition DVD Review

Hey folks, Valkor here. And keeping up with the animated Christmas cheers (last round we covered 'Twas the Night Before Christmas Deluxe Edition), the folks at Warner Home have blessed the Val-cave with another holiday classic, which is the sequel to an animated short based on "Frosty the Snow Man". Welcome to Frosty's Winter Wonderland Deluxe Edition DVD.

Frosty's Winter Wonderland DVD

The events in Frosty's Winter Wonderland take place a year after events in the first animated short. The kids in town are having fun, but without Frosty… well they appear rather glum. However with temperatures dropped, Frosty makes his return and the fun begins. But when it's time for the kids to head home for the evening… well Frosty starts to feel lonely. So the kids devise a plan to create Frosty a snow wife named Crystal. But when they put on the finishing touches – a hat given to them from a horse, well it doesn't appear to have the same effect as teh top hat on Frosty (come on, every hat can't possibly be a magic hat now can it?). As the kids head home, Frosty makes a snow bouquet for Crystal, and wouldn't you know it? It works and Crystal comes to life!

But all isn't well as Frosty has an adversary, so to speak, in the name of Jack Frost. He's tired of Frosty getting all the credit for making winter fun when really it should be him. He devises a plan to get Frosty's magic hat – and succeeds! But thanks to Crystal's kiss, Frosty is returned to life - no hat required. And they don't get even mad at Jack for what he did; in fact they make him the best man at the wedding, which includes a Snow Parson.

With Frosty and Crystal happily married and all this winter fun goin around, temperatures start to rise and it's nearly time for the snow people to head north. However Jack Frost says "Don't worry about it! I got this! Winter will go on forever because I'm the man and winter obeys me!" (You get my meaning). However Parson Brown reminds everyone why we need spring to happen and the Snow people are off to their wintery homes to come back again someday.

The DVD is a remastered version of the 1976 classic, which includes one extra – Frosty and the Story of the Snowmen and a few trailers. Now rumor has it that Frosty is tied down with four jobs, Crystal is always on his case about something, and together they have a bunch of little snow rugrats carrying about. Trust me, he ain't comin back ever! Or so I heard. But that's talk for another time. Let's cozy up to the TOV Breakdown!

The Good:

Christmas just isn't Christmas without holiday songs, a tree, presents, and TV specials to kick off the season. One favorite special in the house of Val has always been Frosty the Snowman and the sequel, Frosty's Winter Wonderland, is just as much fun as the first. It expands on the universe by adding more characters and gives Frosty an adversary, even though Jack Frost ends up being a good guy in the end. As far as the remastering goes, picture quality is pretty sharp and colors are bold and bright. And the audio is done up in mono Dolby Digital with voices and music sounding clear and crisp. Great job!

The Bad:

Frosty and the Story of the Snowmen – this is like watching one of those documentaries in school. You know the really boring kind that puts you to sleep. Sure it's quite informative, but how many kids are gonna want to sit through the history of snowmen?
