• Skullcandy Crusher Evo Headphones Review

Hey gang, Valkor here. It's been some time since the folks at Skullcandy paid a visit to the Val-Cave. Their first and only visit involved the Skullcandy Fix wired earbuds, which scored them 4 out of TOV 5 stars. This go-around, I got to test out their latest – the Crusher Evo Wireless Headphones. Are they worth the price of admission? We'll answer that question and more as we dive into the breakdown. But the quick answer is: Oh, it's definitely worth it!

Externally, the Crusher Evo headphones are similar to other headsets I've covered. The earcups are well-cushioned. Plus, they have a leathery feel about them. The headband is also cushioned. However, it has more of a rubbery texture. On the right cup, you have your volume up/forward and volume down/previous buttons. The down button is also for answering/ending calls. Finally, on the right cup, you have a dedicated Spotify button. Personally, I don't use Spotify. But it's there for those that have an account. Finally, on to the left ear, at the top, you have the power on/off/pair button, the bass slider, a USB-C port for charging the headphones, and an aux port (cable included).

An interesting new feature that I haven't seen on most headsets I've reviewed or purchased is the bass slider. The slider adds more or less bass, depending on your need. There are times when I wish I had more bass, particularly while I'm listening to my usual upbeat tunes. Then again, when I'm gaming, I don't need as much bass. Other than the sound quality (which I'll get into in the breakdown), the bass slider is the Crusher Evo's best feature. And it's something I wish a lot of headphones had.

I recently purchased a Backbone controller for use with my Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. And let me tell you, it's the best gaming accessory I've purchased in a minute! I tested out the Crusher Evo with the Backbone, playing Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, along with some heavy music listening. And now that I've spent some time with the headphones, I think we're ready for the TOV Breakdown.

The Bang:

In Val-Cave testing, the Skullcandy Crusher Evo blew me away! The sound quality is incredible, with clear, sharp vocals and an intense bass that will rock your ears! And believe me, you can feel it as these headphones thump! The bass slider can be adjusted to suit your needs, making it a great addition. I didn't have to drag the slider too high; Keeping it up midway worked perfectly for me. As for gaming, the Crusher Evo enhanced the experience; I did a mean run through Symphony of the Night, finishing it in a few days. What kept me immersed in the game was the music, which is top-tier. With the Crusher Evo headphones, the music is total ear candy! Next, let's talk comfort. The Crusher Evo headphones are well-cushioned and can go the distance. They held up well on my recent Miami journey, never feeling cumbersome. I'm looking forward to seeing how well they handle during one of my longer journeys. Finally, the Crusher Evo has a sweet battery life. The company touts 40 hours. And I'd say that's about right. I haven't gone a complete 40 hours with the headphones - 10 hours at best. So far, I haven't run into any issues in that area. In the end, Skullcandy scores a big win with the Crusher Evo headphones. They sound amazing, are comfy, and are easy on the ears. I feel that it would be worthwhile to check them out!

The Slack:

My only complaint is the included carrying case; It's just a soft cloth bag. I would think, if these are headphones you're going to take along for a journey or three, then we should be given a hard case. I mean, these are sweet headphones. And I'd prefer the protection of a sturdier case.

The Skullcandy Crusher Evo is available now and in multiple colors. And I wound up choosing the midnight plum. Mainly because I heart the name, but the color is different from my usual black. So, if you want your audio world rocked, I recommend the Crusher Evo. They offer up some sweet sounds, comfort, and long battery life that when combined, make for a fun audio package. I highly recommend it. So, out of TOV 5 stars, I'm giving the Skullcandy Crusher Evo Wireless headphones a 4.5.
