Hey gang, Valkor here. The weather here in NJ area has been nothing but perfect these past few days. And I wish it could stay like this forever, but the heat of the summer looms and I, like many others, will be spending as much time outdoors as possible. And with that in mind, you’ll want a pair of headphones that's not only travel worthy, but they look and sound good as well. With that in mind, I’m welcoming back into the Val-Cave Edifier, who has the perfect set of headphones for “maximum chillage” – I’m talking about the H640p.

The H640p offers up a simple yet unique design, with cups that are well labeled, fitted with a soft, velvety type cushion and they rest flat against your ears rather than envelope around them. The band is made of a smooth, soft silicone that gives it a distinct feel and it finishes with a wired cable that has a start/stop (or answer) button just below the left earcup. The H640p comes in three colors – White, Black and a yellow/purple motif, which is the color I chose to review, simply because it’s be something different, yet a lot of fun when out in the wild. Plus, the colors screams “summer”, or at least it gives off a “tropical” appearance. The drivers contained within the headphones produce a balanced treble/bass sound, though my ride varied based on the device I used (more on that in the breakdown). Needless to say, the H640p serves up a tasty mix of lightweight and comfort fit for a moment of relaxation with some of your favorite tunes.

My initial test of the H640p started with the Nexus 6, which was a bad idea given that the volume settings of the device are low. Thankfully, I keep several devices on hand for just such an occasion, which will showcase the sound quality better. And with that in mind, let’s take a dip into the TOV Breakdown!

The Bang:
Edifier’s H640p are the right type of headphones to take with you on your summer journeys or if you’re just relaxing at home; they’re lightweight, mad comfortable and easy on the ears even if you put the volume to its loudest, these headphones won’t explode your drums. Vocals are crisp and clear and the headphones handle sounds well from the left and right directions. Overall, the H640p headphones are simple, affordable and fun for when you’re having those mellow moments at home or when you're away.

The Slack:
First up, the headphones could use a richer and thicker bass because what the headphones produce now, doesn’t give my tunes that “thump” that I look for in headphones. Second, there's no volume control, and why that is I’ll never know; because you can’t really mellow if you have to reach for your device to lower/raise the volume all the time. Finally, I know I’ve stated that the Nexus 6’s volume is on the low side and this goes with many headphones I’ve used with the device. But even when I use the H640p with other devices or even on my laptop, it’s still low; not low that you can’t get immersed in my music, but maybe too low for my taste overall. I’m not saying I want my eardrums blown, but I would like a bolder, richer audio experience.

Edifier H640p headphones are available now. And if you’re looking for headphones that are simple and fun, then look no further because these headphones are ready to make those summer days of chill all the more enjoyable. So, out of TOV 5 stars, I’m giving Edifier H640p a 3.5.
