• Peanuts 1970's Collection Vol. 2 DVD Review

Hey folks, Valkor here. Thanks to the folks at Warner Home, the Peanuts gang gets to make another round in the Val-Cave with "Peanuts 1970's Collection vol. 2". Epic-1 got to tackle the 60's disc, which you can read HERE. Yea it was the cooler set because of specials like "The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" and "A Charlie Brown's Christmas", but this set is pretty special in its own and quite enjoyable.

This 2 disc set features six episodes of the classic specials, which aired around the 70's. All your favorites are featured such as Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Linus, Peppermint Patty, Lucy, Sally, Marcy and even Rerun and Pigpen make an appearance, along with the likes of Schroeder, Woodstock, and more. Here's what you'll find on this incredible DVD.

Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown – its Valentine's Day and the Peanuts prepare for that day of love. Charlie Brown is confident that he'll receive tons of cards, but what he really wants is a card from the little red-haired girl. Think he'll get it? Also Linus has a crush on his teacher, but Sally thinks the gift he bought is for her. Ooops!

You're a Good Sport, Charlie Brown – Charlie Brown is entered in the town's first Moto-Cross race, where's pitted against Peppermint Patty and Snoopy in disguise. Will Chuck win the big prize? It's a retelling of the Tortoise vs. the Hare, guess who's the tortoise? Oh and there's a nice nod to the Great Pumpkin, which floored me.

It's Arbor Day, Charlie Brown – The gang decides to celebrate Arbor Day by fixing up the ball field – Charlie Brown's ball field! What's worse is his first game is coming against Peppermint Patties Team. Luckily for Charles, the field gives him an advantage, which puts his team towards their first victory. Can they hang on to victory?

What a Nightmare, Charlie Brown – It's an all Snoopy special, where the little beagle has a dream he's left home to become an sled-pull dog, but he's picked on by the other dogs who deny him food and water. But Snoopy turns the table as the primal wolf that lurks within him is unleashed.

It's Your First Kiss, Charlie Brown – This is probably my favorite of the bunch. It's the time of homecoming as the gang prepares for the big football game. The little red-haired girl is homecoming queen and old Chuck is her escort. After the game he must escort her to the center of the dance floor, kiss her on the cheek, and perform the first dance. With the pressure of the kiss and also winning the game, can Charlie Brown keep it together?

You're The Greatest, Charlie Brown – My second favorite in the set Charlie Brown is entered in a Decathalon, with Peppermint Patty as coach and Marcie as his second. He'll compete against the likes of Fabulous Freddie from Fremont and Snoopy dressed as "The Masked Marvel". Chuck starts things out slow, until all of a sudden he's in first place. With one competition left, can Chuck nail the win?

There's also one extra "You're Groovy, Charlie Brown: A Look at Peanuts in the 70's", which took a look at Schulz in his studio with commentary from his wife and friends.

The Good:

What can I say, it's some of the best of Charles Schulz's works that's definitely a must own for any and all fans, old and new, to enjoy. Though the 60's set has all the true favorites, the 70's is a set that can't be missed. Plus all the shorts have been digitally remastered so you get a good clean up on the video that makes it look brand-spankin new, and it sounds terrific!

The Bad:

Watching Lucy constantly swipe the football away from Charlie Brown – during the big game no less! And what's worse, he gets the blame for it!

Peanuts 1970's Collection Vol. 2 comes out on June 1st, and it's definitely one you'll wanna pick up if you're either a fan of the shorts/comic strip, or want something safe and positive to show the little ones today. I highly recommend it! And out of TOV 5 stars, I give the set 4.5 stars and it's been Valkor tested, TOV Approved!
