Hey gang, Valkor here. Lately, I've been on a JRPG kick; I'm talking about completing older and newer titles until completion (currently finishing up Dragon Quest 8). So, what does that have to do with this next title on the GameView chopping block? Well, in between RPGs, I have to switch things up. And that's when X-Out Resurfaced dropped on my lap. And it's just what the gaming doctor ordered as it not only cured the need for some intense action. But it was also loads of fun!

A 2D horizontal shooter, X-Out Resurfaced is a remake of an earlier Amiga/Commodore 64 game. And it's an alien invasion actioner that takes place underwater rather than in space. The game starts with three unique ships to choose from, each with a different cost. You will have more ships to run with and more customization possibilities if you go with the least expensive option. Once set up, you're thrown into the fun as enemy attacks will come at you from all angles. Thankfully, your ship comes with an energy bar that once depleted then it's game over and you're taken back to the start with no continuations. And as long as you can bob and weave your way through waves of hostile ships, missiles, and bullets, it will last for a long run. X-Out Resurfaced will put your skills to the test. And if you love shooters or arcade games, you'll love all the fun that X-Out Resurfaced offers.

X-Out Resurfaced is a remake of an older Amiga title-one that I've never played. However, looking it up, I can see and embrace all the work done because the final product is gorgeous! The graphics look amazing, with its dark and gritty backdrops. The animation is fluid, with a lot of onscreen action. And even with loads of objects flying about, there wasn't any slowdown. Or none that I noticed. Then there's the music, which is total ear candy. Thankfully, if you choose options, you can sample the original and remastered tracks to see the difference. There's also a two-player feature that I haven't tried. But I'm thankful it's there because, given the chance, I'll need all the help I can get. Finally, there are no difficulty settings! So, it's hard mode from the jump! I can see some folks being OK with it. However, I see others putting it down after losing relentlessly on the first level. I recommend using a pro controller to play on the big screen while the Switch is in dock mode (I have my AfterGlow on deck). It gives you more visual real estate than just playing on the small screen.

X-Out Resurfaced is a straightforward shooter, with a high level of difficulty that will push your patients to the limits. It's done nicely as a remaster, with stunning visuals and a fantastic soundtrack. The title is available not only on the Nintendo Switch but also on STEAM, PlayStation 5, and XBOX. Whatever your preference, get ready for an amazing experience. I highly recommend adding this one to your gaming rotation. And out of TOV 5 stars, I'm giving X-Out Resurfaced a solid 4.
