Hey folks, Valkor her. And welcome back to another edition of TechView, where we showcase some of the coolest and sometimes must own tech out there. And thanks to the folks at Audio-Technica I've been given the chance to review their latest - the Quietpoint ATH-ANC27 noise cancelling headphones. Last round AT visited the cave, Alacran snagged the last pair, so I had to make sure I keep these babies secure. And compared to most noise-cancelling headphones I've tried, these babies rank up there as one of the best.
First let's talk design; the ANC-27 sports a comfortable over the ear design, with cushioned ear pads and additional cushioning on the head area. They're foldable so you can store them in the included travel case and slip em into any bag with ease. Now the ANC-27 uses Quietpoint active noise-cancelling technology which reduces most background noise and enhances your listening pleasure. And these particular pair offer up to 85% noise-cancelling, which means you're gonna block out a lot of environmental noises, leaving you immersed in your own tunes. Finally the ANC-27 comes with a 3.9' detachable cord, again making it great for travel as everything fits snuggly in the case. But what did I think of it?
Compared to other noise-Cancelling headphones such as the Bose's QuietComfort 3 and the AblePlanet NC-200, I have to rank the ANC-27s at a close number two to the NC-200. Sound quality is pretty sweet and solid and the bass is great - not too heavy and it thumps when you need it to. The noise-cancelling is also spot-on and really blocks out all surrounding noise. I opened the windows to the Val-Cave (yes the cave has windows) and turned up the TV full blast, and honestly I couldn't make out what was going on when I switched the music on; so definite plus points there.
The headphones, even after adjustment still feel a little tight around the ears. But that isn't necessarily a bad thing since your ears are fully enveloped enhancing the noise-cancelling capabilities of the set.
Overall Audio-Technica's ATH-ANC27 noise-cancelling headphones are a winner in my book and they definitely make traveling, especially by air, that much easier when I can block out all the nonsense around me. And out of TOV 5 stars, I give the ANC27 4.5 out of 5 and they've been Valkor tested and TOV approved.
