Hey gang, Valkor here. While some folks might have Halloween and Thanksgiving on the brain, in the world of tech it’s all about Christmas time, baby! And we’ve got a lovely roundup of gadgetry goodness thanks to the latest Pepcom Holiday Showcase in NYC. While I prefer the “Wine and Dine” scene, this event is always a packed house, with a wide variety of wares to explore. And with each Pepcom of late, I’ve kept things to a minimum, so with this list, you’ll get something new as well as a couple of return visits. Check it out!
AirSelfie2 – If you’re looking to take your selfie game to a whole new level – and I mean that literally, then you’ll want to look into the AirSelfie2. The Airselfie2 is a small, lightweight drone equipped with a hi-def, 12MP camera that will give your pics some height. You set it to launch, adjust your shot, take your pic, and watch as the drone safely lands back in your hand. This was definitely the best of the show and I’m looking forward to seeing more from this amazing device.
Ventev – When you’re looking to give the very best in quality mobile accessories to friends and family this year, then look no further than Ventev, who brought along a wide range of products for your holiday interest. First up is the wireless chargestand, which is perfect for owners of smartphones equipped with wireless charging technology. It’ a two-part system with a stand and an adjustable Qi pad that rest perfectly on any desk. Next is the wireless chargepad+ that touts faster charging than your average charge pad. Plus it features a cloth covering, which gives it a unique look. Finally, to round things up, we have the r2240 wallport, featuring two USB ports for charging a host of devices. Next is the rq1300, which is meant for all those Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 devices. And not to leave out your Apple iPhone users, there’s the r1240, which comes with an Apple Lightning cable.
ViewSonic – While they may be number three on my Pepcom Holiday list, ViewSonic ranks as my #2 in “best of show”. The company brought along with them a couple of choice nuggets, with the first being the M1 Portable Cinema; this portable projector features a lightweight design, 16GB of built-in storage (with an optional microUSB slot of additional storage) and Harmon Kardon speakers for superior sound. It’s great for when you’re at home and looking to save some space or on the go (for you travelers out there). Finally, we have the PX706HD Gaming projector, which gives you the big screen your gaming deserves. The projector touts full HD resolution (1920X1080), sharp images and 3D compatibility. Both projectors look great and I can’t wait to experience all that they are capable of in the Val-Cave (I’ve got my eye on you Alacran).
Plantronics - Here at TOV, we love to cover gaming audio - mainly because we get to do some heavy gaming while testing out the latest gaming gear in the process. We’ve previously covered Plantronics RIG products, and the company is back with the next headphones in the lineup with the RIG 500 Pro. You get a variety of models based on your gaming preference and on deck were the 500 Pro HS (PS4), HX (XBOX One), and a 500 Pro that’s universal. The headsets have swap-in earcups and wires, removable microphone and tout amazing audio quality. The design is pretty impressive but it’s how the headphones sound is what I’m interested in. Stay tuned.
Drinkfinity – Last year we had the pleasure of giving Dripo (personal cold brew coffee maker) a TOV run. And now it looks like Drinkfinity has arrived with a little something-something that goes beyond (but includes) coffee. The Drinkfinity system is fairly simple – you just add water into the reusable bottle, pop in a pod (which comes in a variety of flavors) into said bottle, shake and enjoy. I liked the taste of Elderflower Chill and I’m looking forward to going full-on review with a couple of other flavors, which you can expect in the coming weeks. Stay tuned.
Catalyst – We’ve covered Catalyst Impact cases for the iPhone and Samsung Galaxy S8+; and now the company is back with a slew of Impact cases for the latest mobile phones on the market. If you’re looking to get the newest iPhone (XS/XS Max and XR), or the Samsung Note 9 (expect a review for that case) as well as the Waterproof 20L Backpack that looks to protect your tech and anything else inside from the rigors of the outdoors.
Royole – Last time I ran into Royole, they were showing off their personal theater over at EXXXOTICA 2017; so it was nice to see them not only showing off that headset but a little something extra in the form of RoWrite; the RoWrite combines an old-school notepad and new technology, making it so that whatever you write/draw on paper is digital transcribed over to a tablet or smartphone. You get a number of options that will allow you to perfect your work. And if you’re handwriting isn’t all that great, there’s an option to change your written words to digital type. The tech sounds promising and I look forward to seeing this and more from Royole.
HyperX – HyperX is always looking to take your gaming to new levels and that trend continues with the latest in gaming tech – the Pulsefire FPS Pro RGB Gaming Mouse. The FPS Pro touts a lightweight design, anti-slip grip, and LED lighting customization. It looks and feels great, but how well does it play? TOV readers certainly want to know!
