• HyperX Cloud Revolver Gaming Headphones Review

Hey gang, Valkor here. Of all aspects of gaming that I put the most focus on, I’d have to say audio is very high on that list. Long before TOV, I’d even go as far back as the mid-90s when I started dabbling into PC gaming, I recall buying my first “multimedia speakers” and experiencing gaming audio with a subwoofer. Since then, from speakers, soundbars and headphones, I take a lot of care in choosing the right product to meet my needs and fit my budget. Ever since we began covering gaming and gaming accessories, when it comes to gaming audio, we’ve covered all of its areas from the lows and the highs, to casual and the hardcore. Well, the folks at HyperX are back with their latest pair of gaming headphones, ones that we were given a brief introduction at the past Pepcom Holiday Showcase and definitely, stands out on high – the Cloud Revolver Pro Gaming Headphones. And now they’re in the Val-Cave awaiting either my approval or a toss into the bin. But by that golden editorial award, I believe these headsets pass the test and then some.

Design wise, the HyperX Cloud Revolver really stands out amongst its brethren. First up, the earcups feature an “exhaust port look”, finished with a memory foam and faux leather. It completes with a foam/leather covered headband set below a steel suspension frame steel that’ll automatically adjust to your cranium. Each earcup is clearly labeled left/right and on the left ear, you have a port for a detachable and adjustable microphone. The attached cable is fairly short, but I mostly play wirelessly with my PS4 controller. So it works in that regard. However, if you need more of a reach, depending on what platform you’re using, the Revolver comes with an extended cable that also features an audio control box, which allows you to not only mute your mic, but it also does volume control, as well as allowing you to clip the attachment to your shirt. Finally, at the end of the extension, you have two plugs – one for audio and one for the mic.

The Cloud Revolver is as straight up as you can get when it comes to gaming headphones, as it doesn’t get a 7.1 boost like the Cloud II or the earcups don’t light up like the SteelSeries Siberia Elite. But what it does offer is high-quality audio. And I’ll save that kind of talk for the TOV Breakdown.

The Bang:

HyperX Cloud Revolver gaming headphones encompass everything a gamer on any level can appreciate. It definitely has the look as the Revolver features a gamer-centric, edgy design that stands out amongst many of its ilks that’s out on the market, especially amongst previous HyperX headphones such as the Cloud II and even the recently reviewed Cloud Stinger. Personally speaking, I hope the gang at HyperX continues this trend and produce newer models along these lines because it’s a pretty bad ass design. Next is the comfort, and while I’ve experienced the suspension design in such headphones as Audio-Technica ATH-AG1, or even SteelSeries Siberia Elite, I find the Cloud Revolver equally as comfortable and way more durable than the previously mentioned headphones. I’ve worn the Revolver for long periods of play and afterward they don’t feel heavy or tight around the ears. They just feel right. Now the Cloud Revolver has the design and the comfort, but how do they sound? Well, they sound pretty amazing! I can say one thing about the HyperX line is that they really know how to balance the audio in their headphones to perfection! Everything from bass, treble, and clarity is all on point! The key with me is bass, and the Revolver hits the sweet spot in that area as everything thumps just enough to get me in the groove. Overall, with the Revolver, audio is much broader, more spread out so that you get more of an immersive experience. Playing “Hatsune Miku: Project Diva X” or recently reviewed “Exist Archive”, I found myself more drawn into these games and able to pick out subtle notes in the background. And even at its loudest, the Revolver doesn’t disrupt or grate. It’s just a smooth experience all the way through. So, if you’re looking for a strong pair of headphones to rock not just your gaming world but everything audio, then make HyperX Cloud Revolver the one!

One More Round:

For fans of “Gears of War 4” or the “Gears of War” series in general, HyperX also has a Cloud Revolver “Gears of War” limited edition. So if you want to bring home more of the game, then this is the way you'll wanna roll.
