Hey gang, Valkor here. Resident Evil, when it comes to live-action films, hasn't been a favorite of mine. And I wanted to like them because I love the video games. The live-action films haven't been a hit, but there are the animated films, which have been a delight! The first film I reviewed, Resident Evil: Degeneration, was fun! But that was 16 years ago! That was in the early stages of TOV. But here we are, present day with Resident Evil Death Island! And it's way more fun than the live-action films! And it's ten times better than Degeneration (I think it would have to be after all that time). Check it out!

Death Island kicks off with two soldiers, along with multiple soldiers from Umbrella Corp, sent to Raccoon City to quarantine and dispose of anyone infected; If you've played the games, you know what's happening. Unfortunately, one of the soldiers gets infected while laying waste to a bunch of infected soldiers, leaving behind his buddy to put him down. Later in the film, we learn that the soul survivor's name is Dillon. And that he's none too pleased with his decision. This sets him on a path to creating a new virus. We'll get into that in the next section.

Fast forward, San Francisco is overrun with a zombie infestation that has its beginnings in Alcatraz Island. Heading in to face the danger are Chris Redfield, Leon Kennedy, Jill Valentine, and Claire Redfield. Also, working as the “woman in the chair” is Rebecca Chambers, who joins the crew on the island once she has created a vaccine to fend off the virus. This new T-virus, which was created by Dillon, works with bio-drones that can affect anyone without them having been bitten. Also, Dillon uses the virus on himself, turning into a formidable adversary that the squad must defeat. And in the fight against this creature, they'll employ any weapon at their disposal!

I didn't know that more animated films had been released since Degeneration. So, that means I have some backtracking if I want to stay up-to-date. And I think I will because if the other films are anything like Degeneration and Death Island, I know I'll be in for a fun ride. And now, on to the TOV Breakdown!

The Good:
Resident Evil Death Island is 91 minutes of pure fun! From the moment the film starts until its explosive ending, it's just non-stop, edge-of-your-seat action, which I would expect from a movie that connects with a popular gaming series. And it delivers! The story is just so-so. However, it matches the same flow of the video games, complete with the janky acting. Now, you might come for the story, but the action locks you in. And there's plenty of it! From bullets flying, a crazy motorcycle chase, zombies, and other monsters getting popped, it's so entertaining! Next, the animation is beautiful! You get crisp, clean backdrops, fluid animation, and human characters with realistic facial features. Finally, I thought the voice acting, overall, was well performed. And all of the voice actors matched their respective characters perfectly. In the end, Resident Evil Death Island was a fun ride of a film that I would love to experience again and again!

The Bad:
My only issue with the film was the mouth movements of the human characters. It was nothing too distracting, but you can see that the movements didn't always match the words being spoken. I'm guessing this is due to the multiple languages involved. Again, it's noticeable, but I made it through the film with no problem!

The Ugly:
It's whatever that thing was at the end. SHEESH!

Resident Evil Death Island is available on Blu-Ray, DVD, and streaming platforms such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. The film is enjoyable on any platform, especially if you're looking for something entertaining to watch. The story is decent but the film has plenty of action to satisfy your need for zombies getting massacred and stuff blowing up! Plus, it's better than the live-action stuff. Definitely, give this one a go! So, out of TOV 5 stars, I'm giving Resident Evil Death Island a 4.5.
