Two years ago, during my last visit to Japan, I scored a pair of Eva Unit-2 glasses from the Tokyo Otaku mode pop-up shop. I could have bought the Unit-1s, but I felt the Unit 2s looked better on me; They’re more prominent, plus I loved the design. Well, here we are two years later, and a buddy of mine bought the Neon Genesis Evangelion Eva Unit 1 glasses. So, I took the opportunity to borrow his pair, so I can showcase them here at TOV, giving others a chance to see what they’re all about. And while I still feel they look dark on me, I loved them just as much as the Unit 2 pair.
The Eva Unit 1 is similar to Unit 2 in that the front of the frame is shaped like Shinji's Eva Unit's face (minus the yellow eyes). As you go deeper, the details vary, such as the left handle of the Unit 1 resembling the mech's arms, which include the logo. The right side, on the other hand, depicts the body in great detail. Looking at it from all sides, you can see how effectively the Yabushita firm captured the Eva Unit's looks. They use titanium for the body and "blue cut lens" for the lens, which is fantastic for gaming or if you're a heavy mobile user. Finally, an inscribe of a Shinji quote can be found inside the left handle.
It was in Japan that I first tried on the Eva Unit 1 glasses, and the lighting in the store where they were sold wasn't ideal. But now that I've had the opportunity to test them on in a more natural situation or with better lighting, I have to admit that the eyewear really pops out. Even if I am not a fan of purple, the pattern of the body on the right side is fantastic. I believe that if they had put little yellow eyes to the face, I would have been all over these glasses from the first day! Still, I adore the Unit 1 glasses since they're a fantastic representation of the show's Unit 1 mech.
If you're a fan of Neon Genesis Evangelion and want to expand your collection, get a pair of these Unit 1 eyeglasses! They not only look fantastic, but they also embody the essence of the show in the mech's design! It's a bit pricey, but it's well worth it because I've received nothing but wonderful responses when I've worn them. So I'm awarding the Neon Genesis Evangelion Unit 1 eyewear a 4.5 out of TOV 5 stars!
