• Mardi Gras: Spring Break DVD Review

Hey folks, Valkor here. And I wanna wish everyone out there a safe and happy new year. For me, 2012 is shaping up to be the year that TOV begins to take its place as the premiere entertainment site that I've always wanted it to be and to keep it that way, I'll be taking things up a notch with more movie reviews, hands on gaming previews, checking out some sweet, sweet tech (CES 2012 will help lead that charge) and so much more, which includes a hot new look for the site. But for now we're gonna get the party started with some spring break action in the form of a film aptly called "Mardi Gras: Spring Break". Carmen Electra gets top billing in this one… and I'm not sure why. But the film is damn funny.

Mardi Gras Spring Break DVD

Mardi Gras: Spring Break centers on Mike (Nicholas D'Agosto), Bump (Josh Gad), and Scottie (Brett Harrison), three college buddies looking to party right and score with the ladies. Actually Mike has a girlfriend named Erica (Danneel Ackles), so he's good in that respect. But his other two buddies are lookin for some action; they even attempt to throw a party, expecting hot babes to flock towards them. But that's a bust. So rather than wait for the party to come to them, they head out to one of the biggest, craziest parties ever – Mardi Gras. I mean how does one fail at scoring at Mardi Gras when there's all sorts of women who are willing to show boob for some plastic beads? At first Mike is a bit hesistant to go because he's happy with Erica. However Erica shows up very saddened, revealing that her grandpa just died, and that she'll be away for a few days to attend the funeral.

So that settles that and the trio are off for some debauchery and shenanigans in New Orleans where Bump wants to party hard, Scottie wants to finally get laid, and Mike… Oh Mike, he'll fall in love with one of the hottest women on the planet. No I'm not talking about Carmen Electra; she becomes the object of Scottie's affections. I'm talkin about Lucy (Arielle Kebbel), hottie babe whom he wouldn't have given a second thought had he not found out that Erica wasn't at her grandfather's funeral, but was actually at Mardi Gras showin boob. That bitch! Expect all sorts of wackiness such as Mike having a really quick "Hangover-esque Moment" where he's given a strong drink, suddenly it's two hours and he doesn't remember a thing until he's shown pictures of his comotose escapades, Scottie falls in love with Carmen Electra and he even gives her a pearl necklace... a real pearl necklace not the... yea, and Bump gets a taste of some sweet brown in the form of Regina Hall.

I know I'm usually heavy with the spoilers, but I usually reserve that for films that get low ratings... usually. However Mardi Gras: Spring Break? Yea it's gonna score high and there's some comedic moments that are meant to be seen, not read. So let's find out why this is one of my new favorite films in the TOV Breakdown.

The Good:

Going in, I did not expect to enjoy Mardi Gras: Spring Break as much as I did mainly because of the box showing Carmen Electra and thinking the film is all about her. I mean yea she's eye-candy, but can she really carry a film, especially a comedy? Turns out she doesn't have all that much to do with the actual plot, the weight of which is carried by the guy trio of Mike, Bump and Scottie. The story itself is just above average but it's the jokes that's gonna sell this one. And this film is full of laughs… dear god I didn't expect to laugh as hard as I did but I was left holding my sides at a few scenes. One scene in particular is when Mike, Bump and Scottie perform in the Maxim games, an event that's usually meant to be played by women and for obvious reasons. It left me in tears. Nicholas, Josh and Brett, you guys rock and Arielle Kebbel, I didn't expect to fall in love with you... but I did. She's just too damn cute! (Expect to see her as PerfectView for the month of January). But Arielle isn't the only hot babe in this film - this film is jam packed full of buxom beauties! Keep an eye out for Mike's cousin's Janice and Janine (Jessie and Becky O'Donohue), who if they were my cousins, I'd... yea! In the end, I had a fun time with Mardi Gras: Spring Break; I really didn't want to but I did.

The Bad:

If you're gonna give Carmen Electra top billing, then she should at least have a bigger role in the film; at best she's a cameo, otherwise she doesn't do all that much. She doesn't even flash those amazing ta-tas! However she does have a fun lesbian-esque shower scene, but you don't see much since it's blurred by a steamy shower curtain.

The Ugly:

Too much naked Bump and did that one chick really throw up when he passed her by? Also The shit bomb that goes off in the lobby, which is linked to the lesbian shower scene. It's actually pretty funny.

If you're keeping the party indoors this New Year's Eve and you wanna kick back with an outrageously funny film, then add Mardi Gras: Spring Break DVD to your queue. Oh and prepare yourself because you will laugh and you will laugh out loud. Mardi Gras: Spring Break is available now and out of TOV 5 stars, I'm giving the film a 4. And it's been Valkor Viewed, TOV Approved!
