The Definition of a Loosie - A single or loose cigarette sold out of its package, which can be purchased at a bodega or liquor store for about 25 – 50 cents (more or less depending on where you purchase one). Question: Why is this relevant? Well the main character in the next film I'm about to review called "Loosies" has an affinity for them. And I have an affinity for this film, because it's pretty damn good.
Loosies stars Peter Fancinelli as Bobby – young, carefree, living it easy, career pick pocket... but not by choice. Before Bobby's father passed away, he left behind a 500k debt, which his boss Jax (Peter Gallo) wants to be repaid. One night Bobby meets a Bar Matron named Lucy (Jamie Alexander), has a little one night stand with her and away he goes. Three months later their paths cross again and this time Lucy has a surprise – she's pregnant! To make matters worse, the police are hot on Bobby's trail after he stole the badge of one Lt. Sully (Michael Madsen – The Killing Jar, The Bleeding). So not only does Bobby have to deal with the baby issue, but he's gotta stay one step ahead of the law. And in the end, he has to make a choice to either stay a criminal or make things work with Lucy.
Loosies is the kinda film you won't have to make a guess about Bobby's choice because you know he's gonna choose the girl. But how he gets out of his situation... that's the fun part! Two things before I get into the breakdown. 1) If you didn't know what a "loosie" was before you read this review, well you do now and sharing is caring. 2) If you happen to catch this film, don't you think Vicent Gallo's "Jax" looks an awful like this famous meme??
Loosies is one of those films that from the start grabs you by the hand and simply refuses to let go – and you wouldn't wanna let go because it's a fun ride. The story is very simple and easy to get into, with a tiny, predictable twist at the end. But you won't really care about that since you'll be entirely invested in the plot and the people who encompass its world. Peter Fancinelli plays the role of Bobby to perfection – the dude is charming and quick-witted. I love me some Jaimie Alexander, who's tough yet sexy and compliments Fancinelli's Bobby to a "T". Playing it low-key this round is Michael Madsen, whose Lt. Sully is Ahab to Bobby's Moby Dick; honestly, it never hurts to have Madsen in a film; in the past couple of flicks I've watched him in, he always performs well. And in Loosies, it's no exception. So solid story, great acting, what could possibly go wrong?
Not a damn thing, Loosies is great!
Didn't you read what I said before? The film is great!
You can check out Loosies On-Demand, or rent it on iTunes or Amazon.com, with a DVD release in March 2012. Loosies is a very entertaining, thought-provoking wild ride of a film you'll definitely want to see again and again. And out of TOV 5 stars, I'm giving Loosies a perfect 5 and it's been Valkor Viewed, TOV Approved!
