Hey gang, Valkor here. Of the many possible directions TOV can take, the health and fitness route has never really been included as part of our M.O. There’s nothing against the topic, but we’ve have the chance to sit with and sample what these companies have to offer – until today. That’s right TOV trekked the streets of NYC to hang with the company Medifast – a company whom I’ve never heard of, but after the event I learned they’ve been in my family all along.
First up, let's take a brief look at the history of Medifast:
Medifast (NYSE: MED) is the leading easy-to-use, clinically proven, portion-controlled weight-loss prog company sells its products and programs via four unique distribution channels: 1) the web and nat centers, 2) the Take Shape For Life personal coaching division, 3) Medifast Weight Control Centers, national network of physicians. Medifast was founded in 1980 and is located in Owings Mills, Maryland.
Though Medifast has been around since the 80s, I've never actually heard of them - but some members of my family have heard of them, being given their foods products for dietary needs or they know someone who has tried it. Without even opening up the bag given to me at the event, My mother knew what would be inside before I could open it and beat for beat explained to me who Medifast was and what their products have to offer in terms of weight loss. My family members have tried Medifast products before hand, mainly after long hospital stays; knock wood I've never had an extended visit, so my familiarity with the company is severely limited, until this event.
The items being sampled and showcased are a part of the Medifast low calorie "5 and 1" diet plan, which the company is offering publicly for those serious about losing weight. Again, taken from their press release:
The Medifast 5 & 1 Plan® is designed for fast, safe weight loss. Eat five of our specially formulated meals and one Lean & Green™ Meal of your own, and you can lose 2-5 pounds a week for the first two weeks and 1-2 pounds per week thereafter.
The gang at Medifast set up shop at the W Hotel, where they showcased a slew of their meal replacement products that are about to be offered up to the public with a select group of media on hand to sample much of their delicious products, meet with members of the Medifast team, get a body assessment done, and even sample delicious meals prepared by Jason Hisley of Cupcake Wars amongst other reality cooking shows. The dude was all smiles, quite proud of the Medifast name and very informative how to prepare meals using Medifast ingredients. Pic(s) below very related, they called it French toast made from Medifast cinnamon and brown sugar cereal, fresh berries, cinnamon, syrup and topping it off with a little creme fraiche.
Once all was said and done I had the chance to sample just about every snack, entree, beverage and dessert Medifast has to offer, finishing up with a healthy taco (pic below very related) - it was the tastiest and healthiest event I've had the chance to attend. The food was delicious and the method seems sound. Eating six meals a day would be something I'd need getting used to because my day doesn't start until noonish. And when I'm up, I'm usually on the go so stopping to eat sometimes proves difficult. Is the Medifast method something I'm willing to try? I'd say yes (hesitantly), but I wouldn't want my answer to turn others away. Either way, it was a great experience hanging out with Medifast and here's to more events in the future. Interested?
