• Violeds MOSCLEAN UV LED Mosquito & Insect Trap Review

Hey gang, Valkor here. As we enter the heart of the summer, we must reflect on both the good as well as the bad of the season. The Good: beaches, cooking outdoors, and wearing the least amount of clothing as possible, which looks good for some and not so good for others. The Bad: extreme heat and bugs, mainly mosquitoes that you have to fend off. So, for this next review, we’ll focus on the bugs or rather a new way to keep them suckers at bay, so that you can truly appreciate the summer season. I met with the company Violeds at this past GetGeeked event in NYC, during CE Week, and I was drawn to area because of their mosquito trap “MOSCLEAN”; normally when you try to keep the pesky bloodsuckers at bay, you have to resort to sticky traps, which are gross to handle or bug zappers, which work well, but are also annoying. And if you leave one where kids play… well…

For me, every year when I pop my air conditioner in the window, even if I seal the edges as best as possible, the little buggers always find their way in. Not only that but because of the warm weather, my family enjoys cooking out whenever possible, so the doors and windows are always open and I end up going on a swatting safari or hanging glue traps everywhere. Meeting with Violeds was the best chance meeting I could have, not only for providing the optimal setting for testing out MOSCLEAN, but also to save my sanity.

MOSCLEAN is packaged preassembled and from the initial design, it has the appearance of a common hanging bug zapper. However, breaking it down into its simpler parts, the MOSCLEAN features a combo of UV LED Lights, a fan, and container for holding the carcasses of any insects that come in its path. You start things off by placing the MOSCLEAN either on a flat surface or hanging it from a ceiling; in my case, I chose the area nearest my AC unit, but not in the path of where it blows. The idea behind MOSCLEAN is that the bugs are attracted to the UV lights and when they get close enough, they’re sucked into the container. The first night I tried the insect trap, I was disappointed when I checked it to find it empty. But in the device’s defense, I was still using a hanging glue trap near it, so I took that away. Plus I gave it a couple extra days to give it a real run. And after two days of constant running, I rechecked the trap to find a few dead bodies. Two more days and there were a few more and one actually flew out, which it then flew back in when I reassembled the trap. So, after about a week with MOSCLEAN running non-stop in the Val-cave, this was the end result:

I wasn't expecting the trap to be filled to the brim with bugs, but I was expecting it to capture the few that have made their way into my domicile. And as you can see, it did the trick! And to make sure there were no lives bodies when I opened MOSCLEAN again, I hit it with bug spray (thank you ventilation holes). This is also my tip to you folks out there, should you decide to pick up MOSCLEAN and its time to clean it out. But make sure the unit is unplugged when you do. Or take it outside when you decide to clean it, that way if there are any live bodies then they don’t escape in the house.

The Bang:

After spending a week with MOSCLEAN running constantly, I have to say the device does its job and it does it so well; thus far, the number of mosquito appearances in the Val-Cave has dropped tremendously, allowing me to have many nights of undisturbed rest. By comparison, when I had the glue traps around, there were still a few mosquitoes I’d have to swat. But with MOSCLEAN, I’ve come home and not seen as many, maybe one or two - but never more than that. The trap is lightweight, whisper quiet and is easy to clean so that it can continue doing its job of keeping your space bug-free again and again. Seeing MOSCLEAN in action, I have to say that I was impressed with the insect trap and I think it’ll make for a great addition to any home, especially during the much-hated mosquito season.
