Ace of Spades on deck to review the movie Shutter Island featuring
Leonardo DiCaprio, Ben Kinsley, Mark Ruffalo, and directed by
Martin Scorsese.

The film begins with the main character Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his new partner Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo). They are both US Marshalls brought to an island to investigate the disappearance of a patient named Rachel Solando. They are welcomed to Shutter Island, a very eerie mental institution where most of the patients have killed before. Now, both agents are suspicious especially due to the fact since they are investigating Rachel's disappearance and they have their weapons confiscated. On top of having their weapons taken away, everyone around the establishment is nonchalant about her disappearance. Teddy and Chuck meet Dr. Cawley (Ben Kinglsey), who is the head man in charge, refuses to give any kind of information despite the fact that the two agents are US Marshalls. They interview patient after patient to possibly get more clues on why Rachel has disappeared. He gets a message from one patient telling him to run. He tries to escape in the middle of a brutal storm to no avail. In the meantime, Teddy has weird flashbacks of a blonde haired lady (Michelle Williams) who is really close to him that he cannot get out of his memories. With Teddy's weird flashbacks and a suspicion that Shutter Island has a dark secret, Teddy along with his partner Chuck try to find Rachel Solando and escape off of Shutter Island.

The Good:
This movie is brilliant to the bone marrow. Leonardo DiCarpio had me holding on to every action and word his character had to say. He played the role of Teddy Daniels flawlessly. Martin Scorsese is the man. Everything from the eerie location of Shutter Island to the in depth characters Teddy encounters had me in absolute awe. Ben Kinsley made, Dr. Cawley, his character an evil genius like he was untouchable and above any law in his way. The plots and twists are just so mind boggling, it will definitely have you on the edge of your seat.

The Bad:
Well my butt did fall asleep which means it was a little too long for my taste. It didn't matter though; the film was worth it!

The ugly:
Butt naked male prisoners!! *GAGS*

Conclusion:
Shutter Island, hands down, is one of the best films I have seen in a long time. I have seen Avatar and the Hurt Locker, this film ranks right in their league. Leonardo Dicaprio, an actor I used to hate, has come such a long way from the days of the Titanic. He has morphed into an actor where any role he plays he will make you believe in his character. Martin Scorsese is an elite director so I definitely don't expect anything less. He definitely hit a homerun with this movie. The only complaint I could foresee is that Shutter Island kind of made me restless. I said the same thing about Avatar and that was a brilliant movie. (Valkor's notes: Avatar? Brilliant?? Dude you gotta stop smoking that weed when you watch movies like Avatar and call em brilliant lol); this movie is a definite must see! And out of TOV 5 stars I give Shutter Island a TOV perfect 5.
