• Tom and Jerry Tricks & Treats DVD Review

Hey gang, Valkor here. And in just a short couple of weeks, we'll be kicking off the spooktacular month of October; Ya gotta go out shopping for that uber cool costume that you'll wear at home or out with friends, load up on all kinds of sweet treats, decorate the home all spooky like, and of course get your scare on with a horrific line up of creepy, scary films. And for the little TOVers who can't stand the scares (and hey for even the big ones), the folks at Warner Home have got you covered, bringing together that dynamic cat and mouse duo of Tom and Jerry in "Tom and Jerry: Tricks & Treats" DVD.

Tom and Jerry Tricks & Treats

Tricks and Treats is a single disc compilation DVD, featuring some of the more "chilling" yet hilarious antics of Tom Cat and Jerry Mouse from their older shorts to the more current "Tom and Jerry Tales". In total you get 20 episodes plus two bonus eps, which is way more than the usual 7 or 14 that Warner is used dolling out on their compilation discs. And for that WB, I applaud you. Highlights include:

Tom and Jerry Tricks & Treats

The Flying Sorceress – Tom gets a job as a Witch's cat, but when he takes her broomstick out for a joyride, he gets way more than he bargained for. Does this job come with hazard's pay?

Jerry's Cousin (Valkor Favorite) – Jerry's finally had enough of Tom's bullying, so he calls in his cousin Muscles, who is the strongest mouse there is, to take put a stop to teh shenanigans. The situation escalates when Tom calls in some outside assist. But will it be enough to defeat the ferocious rodent?

Tom and Jerry Tricks & Treats

Power Tom – Tom dreams of being a superhero. But when that dream becomes a reality, he quickly learns that having super powers isn't all that its cracked up to be.

Hi, Robot – Tom plays with Jerry's emotions by creating a female mouse robot to lure him out of his hole and into his stomach. When commanded by Tom to turn Jerry over to him, the fembot springs to life and Tom is in for a world of hurt.

No additional extras save for some trailers for future WHV animation titles as well as the two bonus episodes – Ho Ho Horrors and Doggone Hill Hog. So will this disc be a part of your ghoulish Halloween animation rotation?

The Good:

The answer: Why not? Tom and Jerry are always good for some laughs and this disc is no exception. Forget the fact that some of the eps don't appear to fit the theme of the disc like "Touche, Pussycat" (maybe it's because of the costumes?). In the end, that dynamic cat and mouse duo are still funny and quite entertaining. Plus you get 22 episodes! That alone is well worth the price of admission.

The Bad:

On the front of the box, it states you get 22 episodes, but on the back it states you get 20 plus 2 bonus episodes. Why even have them as bonus material? Why not include them with the rest of the episodes? Ok I'm nitpicking, I know.

Tom and Jerry Tricks & Treats

Tom and Jerry: Tricks & Treats DVD is available now, just in time to kick off the Halloween season. It's a great addition for parties or if you're looking for an alternative to gory, super scary films. And if the little tikes are gonna get their celebration on, then this is the disc you'll want to have. I highly recommend it. And out of TOV 5 stars, I'm giving Tom and Jerry: Tricks & Treats 4 stars and it's been Valkor Viewed, TOV Approved.
