Hey gang, Valkor here. This next tech item comes to us courtesy of CE Week 2014, which I had no intention of attending, but due to some weird misunderstanding of times between that show and a Showstoppers event, I wound up hitting the showroom floor – and I’m kinda glad I did or else I would have never met the reps behind this wonderful and much needed product “The ChargerLeash”. Its one item you won’t want to leave home without and or should I say, it won’t let you leave without it.

There are still many folks out there who have the habit of leaving their chargers plugged into a wall socket long after their device has fully charged and unplugged. I used to be that guy until I put the fear into myself that one day I’ll leave my home, charger still in the wall and come home to a pile of charred ash because of it. A lot of times people get distracted and forget their charger is still plugged and there are some who feel they’ll plug their device back in when they return anyway so why take it out the socket? The ChargerLeash introduces the idea that one should never leave their charger plugged in, for one of many reasons – safety being one; in the midst of its three foot cable sits a small alarm. And after a few seconds of your device being unplugged, it sends out an alert to remind you to unplug it from the wall. There’s also a security aspect to it as the ChargerLeash will alert you if someone tries to mess with or attempt to make off with your device.

Of course other than charging, you can use your ChargerLeash to sync your device with any computer to upload/download your digital media. The ChargerLeash comes in two colors – black for MicroUSB devices and white for Apple products (either the 30 pin for older iPhones/iPads or Lightning Cable for newer devices). I immediately got right into the accesory as soon as I arrived at the Val-Cave; and after spending some quality time with the cable, it’s time to render my verdict with the TOV Breakdown.

The Bang:
The ChargerLeash is one of those ideas that make you want to slap yourself for not thinking of it first. It’s such a simple and genius idea of attaching an alarm to a cable just to remind you not to forget it. It’s great for safety purposes as well as security, because for most of us our smartphones contains a good chunk of our lives and losing one may be catastrophic depending on the contents. Huge plus on why this item is a must own; on my recent E3 2014 Los Angeles outing I happened to witness many chargers still plugged into sockets sans device with their owner either close by or completely left behind. If you owned a ChargerLeash this definitely would not happen as the device is loud enough, even in an airport environment to alert you that it needs to be picked up. The ChargerLeash is a great idea, a wonderful product and certainly ranks high as a must own accessory.

The Slack:
I noticed that when my phone is plugged into a wall and I’d go to pick it up to check the charging status, the alarm would go off. Now that’s not necessarily a bad thing, but any time I’d pick up my phone the alarm would go off – any time! If I checked a message, my calendar, read status updates etc, any time I picked up my phone the alarm would sound. If you’re just going to plug in your device and walk away that’s fine, but if you’re a constant checker, then you’re gonna need some patience.

The ChargerLeash is available now and despite my small issues with the alarm, I still say this is the perfect accessory for anyone who has ever left behind their charger still plugged into an outlet. And with the holiday season fast approaching, the ChargerLeash would be a definite hit. So, out of TOV 5 stars, I give the ChargerLeash a 4.5 and it’s been Valkor tested, TOV Approved!
