Hey folks, Head Honcho Valkor here and my boy Epic-1 has dug into the film "Redemption" and popped up with a whopper in the name of Dustin James, star of the film. it's a great little interview and I hope we see more Dustin around these parts in the future.
What is your favorite sport and team?
I love baseball! It's a lot like acting. When you're young you think it's about emotion, similar to a pitcher who thinks it's about power. When you grow a bit older though you realize it's about nuance. Nuance is an actors change up.
What kind of music do you listen to?
Everything. Music feeds my work. I pick genres that relate to my character to help me feel their pulse.
What made you chose the role of Frank Harden in Redemption?
Robert Conway and I hit it off right away. He seemed down to earth. I'm a cowboy. I couldn't imagine anything better than a modern western.
If you weren't acting what would you be doing?
Acting. LOL! No really, I'm one of those universally creative guys. I enjoy playing music and photography and pretty much anything that allows me to create.
How did you prepare to get into the character of Frank Harden?
I took off a month. Robert didn't have much time to spend with me during pre-production so it was up to me to build in the emotional and physical arc of the role. I had to do research on getting shot and figure out a way to translate that on camera. Frank keeps coming back. I did my best to try to bring truth to it. It's hard though with these types of films.
If you could work with any producer who would it be?
I would love to work with Clint Eastwood. He's my idol. I'm starting to learn more about producing my own films in hopes that I can tell great stories like him one day.
If you could work with any leading actress who would it be?
I'm in love with Kate Beckinsale. She's subtle and beautiful. I imagine her to be a very spiritually evolved person.
Now me personally, I love the villains of the movie did you enjoy playing the hero or would you rather liked to have played the villain?
Frank is a hero, but he has a dark side. Naturally, I'm a darker actor. Always have been. So, I guess to answer your question indirectly I prefer the good guy, but I like to play him with an edge.
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Honest, hard-working, friendly.
What's the next movie we will see you in?
I have a Spike Film out right now I did for Sony Pictures called SIS. Also, there's two more projects in development that I'm attached too. I'd love to tell you about them, but I signed an exclusivity agreement. DANG!
Did you always want to be an actor? If not what was your first career choice?
YES! Always!!! This is all I ever wanted and I feel very thankful to be able to make a living at it.
I see you have a band. What kind of music do you play? Where is your next location you are playing at?
I'm a solo artist. My new album is live. It's just me singing and playing guitar. I wrote Bob Dylan and asked him if he'd consider letting me remake 'All Along the Watchtower.' He did. That's my featured cover song. I also have the rights to Landlside but I'm not sure if I'm going to include that on this batch of songs. I'm considering releasing a second album shortly after with nothing but love songs. I have tons of them!
Anything inspirational you want to tell your fans and fans of TOV?
Find what you do well in life and do it 150%!!! I'm proof that anyone can obtain their dreams. You just have to work at it every day.
Once again thank you in advance and I wish the best for you and everyone around you. Thank you.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! People like you help me to do what I love. I'm grateful!
